relief

a peninsula canceled from below
                slides into sea.
houses flood the deeps—
        abruptly reefed.
tension ends that was
        eons ratcheting.

financial tides move against
        rebar dreams and gradual savings—
                a cement pile takes
                        the better part of winter
                to blow away.
        downwind a bottlebrush sickens.

a capable hull in the shipyard
for sale at the falling price
                of untethered dreams—
wonders if it might
        regain the tides.

a quarter torso reaches
        from incomplete sculpture—
the rest imprisoned
        and the jailor dead.
the rock relieved to be left alone—
        misrepresented now
                by an unshared longing
                        visible to the public.
                palpable
                their passing conviction
        to see a completion inflicted
that would be        to the boulder
        a lobotomy.
