A Pantoum Brood

In the winter of seventy four she wept
for the fifties hooked on rock-n-roll
when Bill Haley sang see you later alligator
starched petticoats learnt how to fly

for the fifties hooked on rock-n-roll
she wrote love poems in amber flux
starched petticoats learnt how to fly
tiresome reality was left to nap

she wrote love poems in amber flux
limbs craved sensual touch
tiresome reality was left to nap
days blurred like wet leaves in smog

limbs craved sensual touch
every sin became a bulletin well read
days blurred like wet leaves in smog
recall was the oxygen she breathed

every sin became a bulletin well read
maturity overtook the brighter stuff
recall was the oxygen she breathed
in the winter of seventy four she wept.
