Rock Collecting

Stooping in the low tide,
a cold like wind
at my ankles, trying to find
the best rocks:

the ones
that are most colorful
when held
under water.

I see a dot
of red marble flash: a good warning
sign.
Grab it.

Walk back to my towel,
place it
with the others
found:

a leopard-spotted,
a pure onyx,
a piece of moon,
a translucent heart.

They say not
to take them; I decide
it's OK for the water and I to share
this secret.
