To My Dentist's Goldfish

They found you today,
your little body,
a lamp overturned,
bobbing sideways,
one gill sipping water
the other skimming air.
Your scales glimmering
like cold coins in a fountain,
protecting the remains
of a hidden current
that swam up your spine,
unable to elude
the fog that overtook you
and condensed in your eyes.
