Checkpoints and Mister Charlie: Are African Americans Our Palestinians?

The checkpoints Israelis use to inconvenience and harass Palestinians living in the West Bank have their counterpart in our racial profiling, our arbitrary arrests of African Americans and other non-"whites," our frequent killing of unarmed black men and women by the police. Our black suburbs, like our black urban ghettos, serve the same purpose as the enclaves or bantustans in which Israel pens up residents of the West Bank.
