Remember the backyards, the boys who lived
next door. Remember the geography
of names, the chain-link longitudes, the trees
and hedges with shadows hidden inside.
Remember summer, glistening bodies
sliding from the pool, tented sleepovers humid
with questions about skin asked and answered
with hands. Remember waiting. Remember
waiting more. Remember the way waiting
felt like it was the entire shining world.
