She could hear them outside, stalking and laughing
as she ripped up tomato plants from beside the back gate.
A thin mist hangs after the winter rain.
The streets tremble in their halogen halos.

to this tooth fairy thing
than I supposed
Some days, our calls go unanswered.
A gaunt, old woman emerges out of the darkness and moves wavering towards me. She is tented in a muu-muu printed with large dark flowers like hibiscus, blurred purple bruises.
