VII: The Final Home

From the cycle Letters to Anne Frank

Beloved child you are so near—
on the sparrow's sill, in the cat's corner,
through a chink in the door.
Your shadow grows across the pavement in Frankfurt, Aachen, Amsterdam.
Numbered are the steps, the days that drip like pearls into the abyss.
The sapphire window draws you out of darkness
"I would like to be as good and peaceful
as the moon."
