Dawning Realization

Dawning Realization

The mid-day sun is incorrect
according to the cast
iron sundial.
It reminds her of her father.
Made to withstand
the harsh conditions
and to speak the truth.
From city to outback and back
again, rescuing, healing,
hospitalizing. The flying doctor
and his expertise.
Yet as the years travel
on the only thing to
settle is the rust
red dust, and his
restless birdlike bones with
their paper covering
have been clipped.
She knows iron is not as strong
as time.
