On The Need For A Pinch Of Optimism

Better rains are on the horizon.
Not this mealy mouthed excuse
for a downpour making toads
of our disappointments. Doubt me,
you could, but to prove my point,
I'll watch a skein of geese dive
into the horizon, preprogramed
into a youthful mode to ensure
their success. Look how they avoid
the rainclouds chasing one another
like bulls after a flag. Look how
every bird barrel rolls like an extra
from Top Gun before calmly re-joining
their peers. Perhaps it's wrong to be
pessimistic all the time. Embrace
the way a leaf cups a raindrop
like a memento, some compass
guiding towards warmer light.
