Two Poems

by Necca Stoller

Necca Stoller writes: I am the owner-manager of a cattle farm in south Georgia. After living in a metro area we moved to the country 4 years ago. It was then I began to write poetry. Sijo is Korean short sonnet and tanka is Japanese short sonnet.

Soul's Sonnet

As I watch the starlings settle

to bend the sapling lower,
Two branches touch down starting
to etch nature's poems in the sand.
Cryptic stanzas begin to form
the sonnet of my soul.

Tanka

tucked between
fallen leaves
a white chrysanthemum
once pinned to my lapel
by your unsteady hands
