Mother Earth
See how the neglected garden is overgrown.
Likewise the abandoned farm.
Observe the fury of the tornado, the flash flood.
Likewise the earthquake, the forest fire.
Consider the cruel frigidity of the polar regions.
Likewise the torrid aridity of the deserts.
Envision the ruthless predations of the jungle,
the dense dank entanglement of the flora,
the rustling, shrieking, clicking, croaking
of vampire bats, sloths, wasps, shrews,
anteaters, lizards, vipers, spiders.
Be wary of the pathetic fallacy.
