Lost in the System

by Deborah P. Kolodji

Lost in the System

Eggshells
on the table,
vile gruel in cracked bowls,
an orphanage breakfast on the
menu.

Blue eggs
from a robin
in the windowsill nest—
she summons forgotten dreams of
her home.
