Directions on How to Forget
Sever a necessary limb.
Carry it to the oven
on a sterile tray.
As skin and muscle burn,
rub the exposed bone—
where there's a feeling
of attachment. On the same tray, collect
ash when nothing else burns.
Inhale and cough. Repeat.
Soon, what is lodged
in the throat and lungs
will be dormant
even when breathing.
