SABINO SABERCAT
WRESTLING

1998-99 was a great rebuilding season for Sabino Wrestling. With four returning state qualifiers, seven returning regional placers, and no one graduating, coaches Tom Dooley and Luis Aceves feel the Sabercats will make their presence known in Arizona 5-A wrestling next year.

Top returners include senior All-American Dominic Capanna; seniors Garrett Fletcher, Aaron Brown, Chris Merlin and Jess Limon; junior Gabe Ochoa; and sophomores Robbie DeCesari, David Gutierrez, and Tom Quigley.

Look for seniors John Bell and Eric Janney to have an impact in only their second year of wrestling. Other returning wrestlers include Brian Ingram, John Davis, Michael Jones, Dan Barley, Blair Taylor, Dan Schur, and Joey Stapleton.

The Sabercats have recruited thirty new faces to the program, and are optimistic that many of them will still be around after a tough first week of practice designed to find out who really loves the sport of wrestling. Top new prospects include Juniors Phil Horner, Bruce Noble, Jason Branham, and Ryan Fitzgerald, along with Freshmen Ryan Johnson, Derek Pan, Everett Baker and Jeremy Patterson. Also joining the team are Dan Barley's brother Abram and Gabe Ochoa's brother Luke.
